From the sea

Bellver Castle from the bay

On its wooded hill more than a hundred metres above the bay, Bellver Castle has watched over Palma for seven centuries. Its name means "lovely view", and the loveliest view of it is from the sea.

Built in the 14th century for King Jaume II, Bellver is the only fully circular castle in Spain: a round keep, a Gothic courtyard, a moat. Long a royal residence and later a military prison, it now houses the city's history museum.

From the deck, crossing the bay, you understand its role as a sentinel: it rises above the pines, round between sky and sea, with Palma and its cathedral at its feet. A perfect pairing with La Seu on a single trip across the bay.
